Favorite TV Shows
My all-time favorite TV shows? Hmmm. Let’s try these.
- Seinfeld. So many references have leaked into our culture: close-talker, soup Nazi, “Not that there’s anything wrong with that,” and many more. Perfect cast. Always fun to watch reruns.
- 24. Edge-of-your-seat action every week…I mean, every hour.
- 60 Minutes. Incredible features and reporting–not EVERY week, but most weeks.
- The Office. Lots of people don’t get it, don’t think it’s funny. But Pam and I love it. Of course, we work in offices.
- Dick Van Dyke. I used to rush home from elementary school to watch this over lunch.
- The Walking Dead. Zombies and post-apocalyptic fun.
- Hill Street Blues. A ground-breaking show. Lots of really good characters.
- Star Trek: The Next Generation. Lots, lots better than all of the other Star Trek series.
- Stargate. Interesting adventures to new worlds every week, and some good villains. Much better during the Richard Dean Anderson years.
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Clever writing, interesting characters, and all manner of monsters.
- Johnny Carson. I’m privileged to have grown up with Johnny. Will always be the King of Late-Night.
- Miami Vice. Was this the first dramatic series based in Florida? Made for a different locale.
- Jericho. Only lasted two years, unfortunately.
- Bones. Booth and Brennan have tremendous chemistry, and their characters make this series.
- Moonlighting. The show that launched Bruce Willis’s career. Another case of great chemistry.
- Friends. Another wonderful sit-com.
- Carol Burnett Show. Hysterical every week. We loved it as a family.
- Battlestar Galactica. I’m talking about the remake. Very classy sci-fi. A whole new take on the Cylon story. The ending left me unsatisfied, though.
- Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Funny, and comedically enlightening.
- Gilligan’s Island. Great fun.
- Hogan’s Heroes. More great fun.
- X-Files. Moody, interesting stories.
- MASH. Funny, while making (subtly) good points about war and peace.
- Glee. Loved the music.
- NCIS. Especially love Abby.
